This Specification covers the requirements for the British Railways Automatic Warning System (AWS) reed receivers, reed receiver module and components.

There are two versions of reed receiver, which both use the same receiver module:-

The Standard receiver; for use on all vehicles at speeds up to and including 100 mph.

The High Speed receiver; for use on vehicles designed for use at speeds over 100 mph.

The AWS receiver is used on a wide range of vehicles and it is mounted on either the vehicle bogie or underframe.
