This business process specifies the process to exchange asset-related data between Routes, Delivery Agents, Custodians of Asset Data and the Supply Chain during projects or works.
This business process applies when:
a) exchanging asset–related data at pre-determined points during a project lifecycle, including the initiation or completion of the project or works, to be input into asset registers, document repositories, asset management systems and geospatial information systems;
b) defining accountabilities and responsibilities for steps in the exchange of asset–related data.
This business process applies to any planned or unplanned activity, project or works that:
a) changes network capability; or
b) refurbishes, renews or enhances Network Rail infrastructure assets
This business process does not apply to maintenance activities that do not change, renew, enhance or remove assets.
Purpose
This business process provides a defined, controlled method to:
a) enable asset-related data to be exchanged in an efficient, controlled manner;
b) improve the accuracy, frequency and reusability of asset-related data received from projects of works which refurbishes, renews or enhances assets This business process enables the business to better manage the risks associated with:
a) making decisions based on asset-related data b) not being able to control project scope, time and cost.
It supports Network Rail in realising the change management principles in NR/L1/ADG/001 that set out how Network Rail defines and applies measures of quality to asset-related data. It is aligned to the Asset Management Strategy and Policy, and Network Rail’s vision for systematic management of assets.
This business process mitigates the asset-data related hazard of incompatibility of design elements and data collected through projects with business process.
