This document covers concrete bridges with post-tensioned elements forming the primary means of load carrying capability.

The module sets out the approach to be used in applying the Design Manual for Roads and Bridges standard CS 465 Revision 0 to Network Rail’s stock of posttensioned concrete bridges. 

It provides clauses and text which, to make CS 465 more appropriately applicable to Network Rail’s stock of post-tensioned concrete bridges. The clauses and text in this module are to: 

• be applied additionally to those of CS 465;

• replace particular clauses within CS 465;

• amend, augment or substitute aspects of particular clauses within CS 465.

The pattern of application of this standard to Network Rail’s stock of post-tensioned concrete bridges is set out in flow chart form, Refer to clause 8.

NOTE: The approach outlined in this document may be adopted for non-bridge structures comprising post-tensioning.

Purpose 

This module outlines the processes that manage the structures related controls which mitigate the risk of: 

a) Functional failure of Overline Bridges, with post-tensioned elements; 

b) Functional failure of Underline Bridges, with post-tensioned elements; 

c) Functional failure of Footbridges, with post-tensioned elements.
