Network Rail
This standard consists of three distinctive scopes which have been subdivided between Modules A and B.
• The scope of Module A covers technical requirements for Network Rail’s Conductor Rail Heating system
• The scope of Module B covers design and installation requirement for Network Rail’s Conductor Rail Heating system
This standard is applicable to all new conductor rail heating installations.
Purpose
The standard states the specific requirements for the design, manufacture and testing components and systems comprising the conductor rail heating installations for use on Network Rail’s d.c. electrification infrastructure. The conductor rail heating system is designed to manage icing risk that could prevent effective current collection between the conductor rail and the current collection shoes on the train.
The standard provides a uniform approach for new installation on design, manufacture and installation, in order to allow the conductor rail heating system to maintain the operational integrity of the d.c. traction network during cold weather conditions
The standard also provides guidance for refurbishment and renewal projects on improving performance, reliability and maintainability of existing installation.
