This module applies to all SATWS fixed, semi fixed, and cyclic mobile sites used on Network Rail Managed Infrastructure.
There are exceptions detailed specific clauses of this module which apply to only to the route services high output and external suppliers of SATWS managed services.
NOTE: SATWS is not interfaced with the signalling system. Professional head accountability lies with the Technical Authority as per the asset accountability matrix (AAM).
Purpose
The purpose of this module is to demonstrate the removal of human error for warning staff working on or near the line of the approach of trains to their site of work when lines remain open to traffic. Trains are detected by detectors located in the four foot on the approach to the site of work.The sensor communicates with a warning unit(s) at the site of work allowing them to move to their designated position of safety. Competent SATWS controllers then cancel trains out of the system as exit the site of work.
In addition, it provides details of:
a) technical requirements;
b) competence requirements;
c) planning, installation, use, and removal.
