GENERAL DESCRIPTION.
This is the modern replacement for wicket gates that would have been previously locked mechanically from a lever or by a electric solenoid. The gates are for pedestrians use only. They are mechanically spring loaded to the closed position.
The signaller has a direct view of the crossing such that he can check operation and would see any obvious damage to the gates immediately.
The gates are locked by an electromagnet that is activated by the signaller when he requires the gates locked.
The signaller is provided with switches to lock each gate separately. (In older mechanical signal boxes where older wicket gates have been converted, the locking may be done by levers.) Indications shall be provided for the gate operation with means of acknowledging faults and alarms. Appropriate audible warnings are given for alarm conditions.
