Introduction
NR/SMS/PB11 (Clamp Lock Hydraulic Points) details the service requirements for Clamp Lock operated points. Advice on frequency is given within the Signalling Maintenance Specifications.
The Pointcare Service introduces additional checks and tolerances to provide a higher standard of maintenance which may be prompted by condition monitoring alarms. It also includes the tests that are carried out in the existing Signalling Maintenance Specifications.
Pointcare is designed to provide best practice advice in addition to the requirements listed within NR/SMS/PB11. The Pointcare Service is only to be undertaken by competent persons who have passed the appropriate training courses. They will be issued with the appropriate documentation, specialised tools and gauges to carry out the service etc.
The details recorded at the Pointcare Service will be monitored which will help to identify changes in key tolerances and values, and allow appropriate action to be taken to prevent failures occurring. There are two stages to the Pointcare Service:
• The Pre-inspection:
To be carried out 4 - 6 weeks before the Pointcare Service.
Pre-inspection is only an inspection of the equipment (i.e. taking measurements and a general examination as per Figure J1).
It is a joint inspection to be carried out with a Track Maintenance Engineer. The objective of this inspection is to identify components that may require replacement or adjustment. Careful inspection at this stage will mean that you will be fully equipped with the tools and spares required on the following Pointcare service or replacement task.
• The Service:
To be carried out in a pre-planned possession of the points. As detailed in Figure J18, the Pointcare service is a list of specific actions and the recorded results will provide an indication of the condition of the asset. It is strongly advised to conduct annual Pointcare services on assets at key junctions. Record cards can be used to monitor asset condition over time.
