This document only applies to level crossings of public status e.g. public road, bridleway or cycleway, or footpath. Where a level crossing with both public and private status exists, this document should apply only to the public element of the level crossing.

Purpose

To define the process for public level crossing closure or downgrade through consideration of all relevant information and formal consultation of interested parties. This will enable the provision of an accurate remit for the renewal, closure or re-classification of public level crossings.
