This product specification applies to all products used to protect and contain cables on Network Rail’s infrastructure external to building and lineside equipment accommodation. The requirements for cables and other services to be enclosed in cable routes, protective backfill and other protections to buried services are beyond the scope of this document.

Typically cable troughing will be installed at ground level adjacent to the operational railway, but where appropriate, may be installed on supports to negotiate obstructions.

Purpose

The purpose of this document is to provide a performance specification for cable troughing products. This specification recognises that apart from traditional precast, steel-reinforced concrete, troughing can be made from a wide range of materials.
