The requirements of this maintenance instruction shall be delivered whether using a Network Rail in house labour force or by contractor(s).
The instruction covers inspection and maintenance of lineside cable routes primarily provided for the lineside and shall include cable duct routes, cable hangers, cable affixing brackets and cable pits and covers all materials and construction types used for that purpose. It also includes the inspection and minor maintenance of FTN fibre ground anchors and securing ties and sub-duct cable protection systems.
The inspection of cable pits shall include those provided between duct routes, and at locations where a cable route traverses under a road, rail or river.
The maintenance detailed in this instruction is that of a minor nature and it is the intention that any deficiencies of this type shall be completed during the inspection. However, the staff undertaking the inspection shall be responsible for reporting any defects, which have been observed during the inspection, which fall outside the remit specified with this document to allow Network Rail to prioritise any corrective action that they may wish to undertake.
Purpose
This telecoms maintenance instruction defines the inspection and minor maintenance requirements for S&T lineside cable routes so that they can be kept in good order to suitably protect the cables within.
