The scope includes lines shown in the 'Technical File' NR/L2/RSE/100/03 for which the infrastructure manager is Network Rail.
The Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) presented throughout this standard are only applicable for sections of track where GSM-R service provision has been deployed.
The three categories of operational lines subject to this standard are High Speed >220KPH European Train Control System, (ETCS) and Voice only.
The requirements presented in this standard apply to Operations and any project introducing additions or changes to the requirements or configuration of the GSM-R system (or any dependent system or other infrastructure) that may impact upon the technical performance of the GSM-R system.
General Purpose Handset equipment is out of scope.
Purpose
This specification defines how the technical and operational functionality of the Global System for Mobile Communications (Rail) (GSM-R) system air interface will be assured throughout its operational life.
This specification mitigates the risk of delays in communication in speaking to the correct Signaller/Train Operator and enables Rail Emergency Calls to be routed correctly.
