This module specifies Network Rail’s requirements that are applicable to signage at level crossings.

The requirements in this module apply in addition to general requirements specified in NR/L2/XNG/30020/R01 and other modules that are specific to the different types, or particular configurations of level crossings.

This module applies to new level crossings and to existing level crossings where reasonable opportunity to comply with this module is identified.

This module applies to those scoping and designing level crossing works.

Signs that are prescribed in PC(S+B)s Regs or TSRGD are not repeated in this module unless there are additional requirements or clarification surrounding their use. For this reason, the majority of this module is focussed on station, footpath, bridleway, and user worked level crossings.

For road markings refer to TSRGD and the Traffic Signs Manual.

This issue does not prescribe Welsh language signs. Where sites are assessed as requiring Welsh language signs then existing Welsh language sign designs should continue to be used until such time as new Welsh language signs have been approved. Where sites are assessed as requiring dual language signs then the existing designs of English and Welsh language signs should continue to be used until such time as new Welsh language signs have been approved and application rules developed for their use together.
