This procedure covers the complete process involved in producing a signalling notice and in particular:
identification of the need for the notice;
production of the draft notice;
validation of the draft notice;
distribution of the final notice.
NOTE: It does not include the training or familiarisation of staff in the application of the contents of the special notice.
PURPOSE
This procedure confirms that supplementary signalling and permanent way alteration notices (signalling notices) are written, produced, authorised and published in a consistent manner across the network, together with associated timescales. These notices contain details of significant signalling and permanent way alterations.
A signalling notice is provided to make sure that Train Operating Company (TOC) / Freight Operating Company (FOC) staff, Route Operations Control staff, signallers and all others who have a need to be on or about the line have consistent and clear information about significant changes to the infrastructure.
The supplementary signalling and permanent way alteration notices performs a primary role as a supplement to the Weekly Operating Notice (WON) and the information is not normally provided in both publications.
