This procedure applies to the designation of signaller’s decision points, for the protection of any level crossing where the signaller may give permission for a user to cross the line where signal protection does not need to be provided as per GE/RT8000-TS9.

This includes level crossings provided with fixed telephones, where the agreed method of working involves the use of mobile phones, or where permission might be required following the failure of crossing equipment.

PURPOSE

This procedure sets out to provide a reliable and consistent method of working which reduces the complexity of decisions signallers are required to make at level crossings. It mitigates against the likelihood of error, whilst balancing the risk of deliberate crossing misuse due to extended waiting times.
