This procedure applies to the actions of frontline operational and Network Rail Route Control staff following a report of a fatality on the railway infrastructure and application of incident management (NR/L3/OPS/045/4.04 applies)

PURPOSE

This procedure mitigates the impact on train services and the welfare of both the response staff and the train driver following a person struck by a train or person involved in a fatality.

The risks being mitigated are severe impact on train services including overcrowding at stations in rear of the incident if this standard is not followed. The risk of impact to mental health of both response staff and drivers will also be reduced by following the items included in this procedure.
