This module applies to any persons employed by Network Rail or another company (TOC/FOC etc.) who, in the course of the legitimate execution of their duties, travel in a Network Rail driving cab.

It also applies to visitors undertaking a cab rides in Network Rail driving cabs.

It applies to Mobile Personal Electronic Devices including wearable technology such as Smart watches, either privately owned or issued by Network Rail, capable of:

a) sending and receiving telephone or video calls

b) sending and receiving text messages

c) sending and receiving E-Mails

d) accessing or participating in social media

e) taking photographs or video

f) receiving and playing radio or TV signals

g) playing games

h) playing music in any form e.g. disc/MP3 etc.

i) accessing the internet or intranet

j) provide personal data, e.g. fitness, heart rate.

NOTE: This does not include Global System for Mobile Communications – Railways (GSM-R) portable handsets

Purpose

To reduce the risks associated with using mobile personal electronic devices whilst allowing for their use in line with requirements of GE/RT8000, the Rule Book.
