This procedure applies to the following: - all holes =15mm diameter in pearlitic rails in plain line and Switches & Crossings (S&C) (as far as coupling conditions allow) including switch rail, stock rails, wing rails vee point and splice rails. Where coupling conditions are not possible see other approved procedures.

This procedure is capable of detecting the following defect types:-

• Horizontal defects

• Bolt Hole defects

Purpose

This procedure is applied when using the Sperry Roller Search Unit (RSU) Rail Testing System (RSU-RTS) for the detection of rail flaws within fishplate limits and around bolt holes to prevent broken rails.
