This Special Inspection Notice defines the life management policy for uncoated polycarbonate lenses manufactured in accordance to drawing BRS-SE93.

Purpose

This Special Inspection Notice defines the replacement actions required for existing polycarbonate lenses to prevent life expired lenses remaining in service.

Routine replacement of uncoated polycarbonate lenses is required at 2 yearly intervals. Uncoated polycarbonate lenses can be used until remaining stocks of these lenses are used up. No signals are to be fitted with uncoated polycarbonate lenses after the 1st June 2006. The coated polycarbonate lens will replace the uncoated polycarbonate lens for which Product Acceptance will be withdrawn.
