This code of practice applies to track fastening systems comprising BR1, BR1.S, BR2, BR3 and BR3.A baseplates fitted with elastic spikes. It applies primarily to jointed track; attention is drawn to the need to satisfy extra requirements where subsequent conversion to welded rail is proposed.
Although the term "Low-Cost" may be taken to refer to any design of spring clip retained by a screw through the baseplate, the scope of this code is restricted to those components listed in para. 5.1 as only they are currently approved by Railtrack for this purpose.
PURPOSE
This code of practice sets out recommended practice for the conversion of elastic-spiked wooden-sleepered track to the "Low-Cost" system comprising screws and spring steel clips. It includes the assessment of the existing sleepers and the action which may arise from this assessment.
