The procedure applies to:-
a) all public road bridges of effective span 1.8 metres and above which are owned by Railtrack.
b) persons within Railtrack with the responsibility for receiving, processing and responding to abnormal heavy road load notifications.
The procedure does not apply to aspects of abnormal vehicles which relate to their physical dimensions. Control of these aspects of abnormal road loads is the responsibility of Police Forces and Highway Authorities.
PURPOSE
The purpose of this document is to define the procedure which must be used for receiving, processing and responding to abnormal heavy road load notifications from road hauliers in accordance with the requirements of Railway Group Standard GC/RT 5141 Assessment of Structural Capacity.
