This Procedure applies to all Tunnels within Railtrack infrastructure.

This Procedure does not apply to:

• the design and construction of new Tunnels;

• maintenance and renewals of track and other operational equipment in Tunnels, except when such work may affect the fitness of purpose of a Tunnel;

• operational safety management of Tunnels.

PURPOSE

The purpose of this Procedure is to define the procedures to be followed to maintain the structural integrity of Tunnels on Railtrack infrastructure to ensure that Tunnels remain fit for purpose.

This Procedure is compliant with GC/RT5180: Safe Asset Management of Infrastructure - Tunnels.

This Procedure is also compliant in respect of Tunnels with the following Clauses in GC/RT5100: Safe Management of Structures:

• Clause 6: Listing and Identification of Structures;

• Clause 7: Examination of Structures;

• Clause 9: Evaluation of Structural Safety of Structures;

• Clause 10: Action following an Evaluation;

• Clause 11: Records;

• Clause 12: Competency.

This Procedure is also compliant with GC/RT5203: Infrastructure Requirements for Personal Safety in Respect of Clearances and Access Clause 6.11: Special Requirements for Tunnels.

This Procedure is also compliant with GK/RT0033: Lineside Signs Clause 5.13.5: Tunnel or Viaduct Identification Plate.
