Purpose
GEOGIS (Geography and Infrastructure System) is the Network Rail master database for track and structures assets. It provides information on asset age, configuration, location and for some assets, condition. It is also the master database for the recording and sourcing of information on ELR's and BRS's.
GEOGIS is used to support various business processes and systems for examining and maintaining the infrastructure providing tender information for new, and management information for existing, infrastructure maintenance and examination contracts, including the provision of asset data to MIMS (Mincom Information Management System) as per RT/E/P/02020 and other data systems, and to business plans for infrastructure development schemes.
This Procedure mandates the use of GEOGIS and the processes for the management of the asset data held in GEOGIS and the accuracy, currency and completeness of the asset data held therein as specified in the Network Rail Asset Data Management Manual.
It also sets out the roles and responsibilities for their implementation and ensures that changes to the data owing to asset maintenance, renewal or structural examination are reflected in the database.
The System Owner and Custodian of GEOGIS shall be the Information Management Head of Maintenance & Engineering Delivery. Information Management shall provide technical system and business support to its customers. Responsibility for the timely collection, validation, maintenance, integrity and audit of the data rests with the Maintenance and Engineering departments in the Territories.
This Procedure also mandates that, where responsibility for the collection of data is to be delegated to a contractor, the relevant Network Rail department must include suitable clauses in the contract to ensure that asset data is provided in a timely and accurate way as specified in the Asset Data Management Manual (ADM).
