Track litter clearance falls into two geographical areas:-

A) Station Areas – through the platforms and up to a point 100m beyond the platform ramp ends.

B) All Other Areas – the remainder of the infrastructure outside Station Areas.

This Procedure only applies to area A

Contractual responsibilities for clearance of track litter are as follows:-

RT1A Contract Areas

A) is not included in the Scope of RT1A (unless it has been varied in by the Employer's Representative) and separate bespoke contracts are let for this.

B) (only) is included in the scope of RT1A.

IMC2 Contract Areas

A and B are included in the scope of IMC2 but the Zones have the option to delete A and continue with the separate bespoke contracts if they so wish.

IMC2000 Contract Areas

A and B are included in the scope of IMC2000 but the Zones have the option to delete A and continue with the separate bespoke contracts if they so wish.

Purpose

This Procedure sets out the principles and responsibilities for monitoring the contracts for clearance of track litter in station areas so as to ensure that the standards laid down in those contracts are achieved and that Railtrack complies with the Environmental Protection Act 1990 in this respect.

This Procedure covers cases both where track litter clearance in station areas is procured via the Infrastructure Maintenance Contract (IMC2 or IMC2000) and by separate bespoke contracts.
