Foreword

These guidelines set down the design of facilities adjudged best suited to the reprofiling of wheel rims on an underfloor wheel lathe of existing and known designs of traction and rolling stock.

Proposals to provide underfloor wheel lathe facilities in accordance with the guidelines and to meet the underfloor wheel lathe strategy approved by the Investment Committee in March 1986 will require full financial submission to meet the normal requirements of the investment regulations.

These guidelines are aimed specifically at facilities for underfloor wheel rim reprofiles but may be considered as supplementing the guidelines for depot design as issued by the Director Projects in March 1986.
