This specification applies to all new or altered signalling systems either employed on Network Rail Infrastructure, or with the potential to affect the fitness for purpose of the Network Rail Infrastructure.

For the purpose of this Specification such works are known as ‘Works Testing'.

This Specification excludes testing that can be undertaken within the scope of RT/E/S/11231: Signalling Maintenance Testing. GK/RT0209 mandates the correct application of Signalling Maintenance Testing.

This Specification includes Fixed Block systems but excludes Moving Block systems.

Persons using this Specification for Works involving novel systems are directed to seek council from the appropriate Safety Cases where specific and particular test requirements will have been identified.

Purpose

This Specification, in support of GK/RT0209, sets out the mandatory procedures and process controls necessary to ensure that new signalling installations, and alterations to existing installations, are independently tested in a manner that assures:

Compliance with the project Concept Design and Engineering Details; and,

Fitness for purpose before they are offered for entry into service.

The Specification also ensures that, as far a practicable, procedures and process controls are consistent across the Network Rail environment.
