Introduction

This Instruction covers the maintenance procedure for all types of oil filled transformers except booster transformers. The frequency of inspection shown shall be regarded as normal, but may be increased at the discretion of the Area Electrification Engineer, where local conditions require this.

Before commencing any work which involves interruption to any supply including Standby Supplies, the consumer shall be given adequate notice by the A.E.E.'s authorised representative, and agreement obtained in appropriate cases.

Wherever possible, maintenance of any associated apparatus, e.g. Voltage Regulators, Distribution Boards, Rectifiers, Changeover Equipments, etc. shall be carried out concurrently in order to minimise interruptions to supplies. The maintenance procedures for these equipments are contained in separate instructions.

Ancillary equipment mounted on the transformer tank as an integral part of the unit, e.g. Fuse Switches, Isolators, Circuit Breakers, shall be maintained in accordance with the appropriate instruction for that type of equipment.

Further detailed requirements peculiar to individual types of equipment are the subject of separate instructions.

All inspection schedules are comprehensive, and incorporate any inspections of shorter periodicity.

Defects found during the course of the work, whether within the scope of this Instruction or not, must be immediately dealt with, as may be appropriate, and recorded on the Maintenance Record Sheet.

After completion of maintenance, all locks, keys, and tools, shall be returned clean to their respective places.
