The self assessment and self certification process is mandatory upon Railtrack Plc, and applies to all activities. The scope and process can be developed and broadened following implementation and experience of application. This widening of scope will be implemented by the re-issue of this Code of Practice.

The self assessment and self certification process concentrates on Railtracks' Railway Safety Case (RRSC) and Safety Management System.

The self-assessment questions will be aligned to the current version of the RRSC . When the RRSC is amended this Code of Practice will be updated accordingly.

PURPOSE

The purpose of this Code of Practice is to provide assistance in the implementation of the self assessment and self certification process.

It is to be applied in conjunction with the Company Procedure RT/LS/P/032 " Self Assessment and Self Certification of the Application of Railtrack Safety Management Systems".

The principal purpose of this Code of Practice is to provide a range of questions which relate to the specific subject areas as detailed on the Assurance Matrix at Appendix A in the Company Procedure RT/LS/P032.

It is strongly recommended that this Code of Practice be used as the basis for Business Units processes. If a Business Unit has in place a self-assessment regime which meets or exceeds that detailed in this Code of Practice, then, subject to agreement with the Head of Assurance, this may continue to be used.
