Introduction
The Critical Rail Temperature (CRT) of undisturbed, fully ballasted, CWR track that has been stressed correctly has been calculated to be 53ºC. If track has been disturbed or is not fully ballasted or supported or is not stressed correctly, then it will have a lower CRT.
This instruction explains Critical Rail Temperature (CRT), why it is important and the off-track features that you need to recognise and report.
It will enable you to give the correct information to those who need to calculate the CRT before the onset of hot weather.
