This Special Inspection Notice applies to all Western Region-type barrier installations. Note that this type of equipment was also supplied for sites outside the boundary of the former Western Region, notably the former London Midland Region.

Purpose

This Special Inspection Notice defines a requirement to examine the rear barrier strut of Western Region-type crossing barriers for signs of damage or developing fractures. This requirement is incorporated in Network Rail Signalling Maintenance Specification RT/SMS LC91 issue 2, but this SIN requires checking to take place pending the implementation of the new SMS.
