There is inconsistency in thermal comfort conditions for local air movement. The difficulty in studying it seems to becaused by the concurrence of the natural convection produced by metabolic heat dissipation of a body and room air movement.Local draft sensation is presently treated as a term. But this may be divided into the physical stimulation of air movement and the physiological perception of a body to analyze alocal draft sensation. The present study examined the physical side of thermal comfort of local draft. The back of the neck andankle of a thermal manikin were stimulated by local air flows of five temperature differences and four velocities from three distances. The changes in the air temperature at a distance of 5 mm (0.2 in.) from their surfaces and in the heat flux on their surfaces with and without the local air flow were compared. The results indicated that the local air flows affected the ankle more strongly than the neck.
