There are three changes being made in the areas of rating metrics and test methods for residential range hoods. The most important is the new metric of Capture Efficiency (CE). This paper defines capture efficiency, explains the test method and lays out a potential set of steps to implement this across the range hood industry. The second topic is the explanation of nominal installed airflow (NIA) and how important that is to ratings and the expected in-situ performance. Any next expected steps and the timeline for implementation of NIA is also presented. The third topic in the paper is sound testing and the updates being made for test methods for range hood ratings. All three of these pending rating updates are expected to be introduced through new language to ASHRAE 62.2 and the paper explains the expected standards language change timeline.
