Examines the heat transfer enhancement produced as a result of induction electrohydrodynamic pumping, a nonmechanical pumping method that produces pumping by pulling or repelling charges present in the fluid with an electric field. This technology has been shown to enhance heat transfer in condensers and evaporators and was expected to produce heat transfer enhancement in an induction pump. An induction electrohydrodynamic pump was tested to examine the heat transfer enhancement that accompanies fluid pumping. The apparatus was operated at 0 deg, 15 deg and 30 deg tilt angles while the augmentation of heat transfer was measured and compared to typical forced pumping and natural circulation. The increase in the overall conductance value for EHD pumping compared to typical forced pumping ranged from 11% to 49%. The resulting increase over natural circulation was as high as 80%.
