Extreme temperatures and their duration related to design applications are the main points which will be addressed in this paper. It will present a new concept for designing and/or sizing air-conditioning (or heating) systems. But first, it will address some aspects of temperature statistics. Next, a brief mathematical review of extreme temperature analysis and its relation to "return period" will be presented. Finally, a new "duration design temperature" will be introduced and discussed in detail.
