RP-657 -- Simplified Method to Factor Mean Radiant Temperature (MRT) Into Building and HVAC System Design PDF

This final report is separated into three parts. The first part is a thorough literature review covering the aspects of radiant heating design methodologies. Documented are several design procedures that have been used in the past. The second^part of the report describes the radiant heating model developed as part of this project. This portion of the report covers the technical aspects of the radiant heating model as well as the overall energy balance used to calculate the heat losses, room air temperatures, and surface temperatures within the enclosure. The third and final part of the report explains how to use the Building Heating Comfort Analysis Programs (BCAP) to size a radiant heating system for a particular room.

The Building Comfort Analysis Programs is a unified collection of computer programs intended to aid in the sizing and design of building heating systems. The BCAP programs do not design heating/cooling systems. The BCAP programs may speed the design process and do allow the engineer to do a much better job of designing a system by accurately including the effect of radiant heat exchange in the design calculations.
