Indoor farming is gaining increased interest due to the ability to cultivate high-quality crops year-round and near to market. HVAC is necessary to manage the temperature, humidity and air quality of the indoor plant environment; however, very few resources exist that describe their application to indoor crop production. To address this need, ASHRAE and ASABE co-developed the new standard “EP653: HVAC for Indoor Plant Environments without Sunlight,” which describes various HVAC equipment applied to indoor farms, including their design considerations. In this seminar, members of the writing committee discuss the contents and process of developing EP653.
