PURPOSE AND SCOPE
The purpose of this course is to train field personnel involved in the installation, stressing, grouting, and inspection of grouted post-tensioning systems. The bulk of the course material will focus on multistrand post-tensioning; however, post-tensioned bar systems, which share many of the same procedures and characteristics, will also be discussed.
This course is applicable to the use of these post-tensioning systems in various types of structures, including bridges, buildings, ground anchors, slabs and storage tanks. This manual and the corresponding course have been developed specifically for these applications. Procedures applicable to single strand unbonded tendon systems are covered in other PTI documents and courses.
It should be understood that while the details and recommendations presented in this manual are intended to represent generally accepted industry practice, the practices of individual companies on specific items may vary from the details and recommendations presented here. In the event of any conflict between this manual and the contract documents or written instructions from the post-tensioning supplier, the contract documents or written instructions should always govern.
Note that some of the procedures described herein may be hazardous to you and your co-workers. Completion of this course is not a substitute for hands-on experience or proper "in the field" training. In addition, this Instructional Manual is not intended to be a comprehensive specification regarding job site safety procedures.
