INTRODUCTION
A series of marine atmosphere exposure tests were planned and started in 1976 on prestressed concrete prisms which were post-tensioned with unbonded tendons. The objective of these tests was to investigate the corrosion behavior of a grease and plastic covered prestressing strand and anchor fittings for unbonded tendons embedded in concrete. The test duration was originally planned for five years, but the program was revised to prolong the exposure for a total of ten years.
An interim report which summarized the results of observation of test prisms exposed for one year was published by the Post-Tensioning Institute (1).* In 1986, all other specimen prisms exposed for ten years were investigated and the series of long term exposure tests were terminated.
This paper is a final report summarizing from the experimental procedure through the findings of the 10 year exposure test.
