Artificial Intelligence in Manufacturing is a course being taught at Oakland University. Artificial Intelligence (AI) is a field aimed at endowing computers with human-like cognitive capabilities including, learning, judgement, and perception. The course addresses the capture, representation, and use of manufacturing knowledge. The particular objective of this course addresses the decision and interrelationship among decision in the process planning, shop-floor operations, scheduling, cost estimating, and quality assurance domains. The paper also describes a laboratory component of the course to add a practical hands-on experience as a ground for the theoretical discussions of manufacturing knowledge.
