This paper sets forth a logical, comprehensive gear design process that can reduce the time investment and attain other benefits, including customer satisfaction. This process includes 12 steps. It also addresses such issues as proper contact ratio, specific sliding ratio, and pointed teeth. This process makes use of effective computer design tools. It avoids manufacturing roadblocks, takes advantage of manufacturing opportunities, and utilizes quality assurance. A complete knowledge of gear design terminology is also part of this design process.
