Treatment of washwater from flexo folder gluer/rotary diecutters should be considered an integral part of the flexo folder gluer/rotary diecutter installation. This area of an installation was relatively unimportant until environmental regulations promulgated during the 1970s creating strong legal and economic incentives to abate pollution coming from boxplants. An additional incentive for conserving and protecting the materials of production came about as material costs have risen. There is substantial opportunity for product recovery. The value of the product recovered, in this case the washwater, can offset some of the costs of treatment. A third incentive, customer acceptance, is becoming a factor for some plants. Many major companies are concerned about hiring practices, promotion practices, and buying sources. Some customers now judge suppliers according to a public accountability ratio. And such customers would look more favorably on products produced by companies that institute adequate pollution control programs.
