The present guideline is valid only in conjunction with the VDI 3397 series of guidelines.
The information in the guideline applies to machine tools with their own cooling/lubrication system; it does, however, also apply to machine tools and production facilities connected to a central metalworking fluid supply system.
In the case of machines with minimum quantity lubrication a special design will be necessary.
