Results of tests conducted by the authors on four plain pipes, fourteen tees, and ten 45° laterals, are analyzed, experimental procedures are described, and errors are discussed. Data are coordinated using load-displacement and load-strain curves as well as tables. Trends in elastic strain distributions disturbed by the intersection are discussed and some estimates of elastic strain concentration factors are made.
Data are used mainly to evaluate limit loads and to show limitations of limit design due to plastic instability observed on tees exposed to external couples. A complete set of data on all tests described in this work is available at Oak Ridge National Laboratory.
