This powerpoint presentation begins by providing a brief overview of the Coyote Springs Project. Project objectives included the following: perform surge analysis on Coyote Springs Raw Water System, resulting from simultaneous pump trip during power failure; determine whether surge tanks are required, where to place tanks and size of tank required; analysis is based on 30% preliminary design; and, in the future, analysis needs to be refined with availability of new data. Transient analysis using HAMMER V8 is presented, along with transient equations for conservation of momentum and continuity, the Joukowsky equation, surge mitigation measures of selecting appropriate devices for surge mitigation and sizing of surge tanks, and a minor comparison of HAMMER V8 and Surge2008. Presentation conclusions indicate the following: based on HAMMER V8 results, there is a need to install a 4,200 gallon hydropneumatic surge tank at BPS-2 and 28 additional CAVs; there is a significant difference between HAMMER V8 and Surge 2008 results; however, it is preliminary and requires further investigations to ensure situation is repeatable in different systems; and, sensitivity analysis is essential as part of a transient analysis. Includes tables, figures.
