This paper presents a recommendation for consistent use of the term "microconstituents" within the
scientific, research, regulatory, public health, and utility communities, and by the general public. This
focuses on the various substances that have been and will continue to be detected in surface water,
groundwater, and reclaimed water at very low concentrations. This paper was prepared at the request of
both WateReuse Florida and the Florida Water Environment Association's (FWEA) Water Reuse
Committee, in response to the need for establishing appropriate terminology for discussing the collective
group of chemical and biological substances that may be present in water. Includes 6 references, tables, figures.
