This powerpoint presentation begins by presenting a case study
for Punta Gorda, a small
coastal
community
in Florida. The study evaluated the city's reuse
feasibility based on 4 factors including:
water quality
constraints; treatment to
meet regulatory
requirements;
reuse customer
demands/
public perception; and,
cost of
treatment and
transmission. Reuse study conclusions indicate that:
all scenarios are more costly than potable
water;
since Punta Gorda has a permitted
20-year water supply, implementation of
a reuse program is not justified at this
time;
an infiltration study was commissioned
to evaluate potential to reduce chloride
concentrations through infiltration repairs
(eliminate RO) to decrease cost; and,
after the infiltration study, the city will
reassess the potential for a reuse program. Includes tables, figures.
