This powerpoint presentation begins by providing the research objectives that include the following:
determine the technical feasibility of
electrodialysis for brackish and concentrated
brackish waters; and,
determine the principal controlling
parameters of electrodialysis operation
(experimentally and theoretically). An introduction to electrodialysis is presented, followed by a presentation of the experimental equipment, experimental set-up and results for single-pass and batch-recycle, and the presentation concludes with theoretical developments. Presentation conclusions indicate the following:
dilute concentration is the principal
process controlling parameter;
electrodialysis is technically feasible for
desalting brackish waters and brackish
concentrate wastes;
next to MHRT, the boundary layer thickness
is the principal operational controlling
parameter; and,
turbulence, in combination with appropriate
voltage application, will significantly improve the
power efficiency of electrodialysis systems. Includes figures.
