This powerpoint presentation begins by providing a brief overview of the AwwaRF-National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) Climate Change Primer that helps with developing a structured process to include the consideration of climate change into decision making. A decision analysis approach is presented that includes problem structuring and deterministic analysis along with global climate models. The Inland Empire Utilities Agency (IEUA) in southern California is presented as an example of a utility that is facing major water challenges and has used this decision analysis approach. Key ingredients of the modeling approach are presented and include the following: range of temperature and
precipitation trends from
GCMs;
"downscaled" weather
sequences reflective of
local conditions and GCM
trends;
water management model
supply, demand, and
reliability under range of
scenarios; and, an
analytic engine and
methodology to evaluate
scenarios and guide policy
formation. Includes tables, figures.
