This poster paper provides brief background information on the following:
master plan for Western Canal WTP completed by Carollo in 2006; and,
future treatment processes currently being pilot tested at site. Project conclusions include the following:
concentrate volume reduction through secondary reverse osmosis (RO)
provides benefits in both short and long terms;
concentrate volume reduction through chemical
stabilization is proven feasible at bench scale;
compared with caustic soda, lime stabilization
achieves higher removal of scaling ions and requires
less acid for calcium control; and,
proposed pilot scale equipment addresses lessons
learned from previous reported research, such as
insufficient settling and unsteady pH control.
