This powerpoint presentation begins by providing a brief overview of the need for cost efficient,
effective infrastructure rehabilitation
technologies, and the major causes of problems in distribution pipes. Epoxy lining is presented as a non-structural renewal method. Epoxy characteristics are listed, along with the Epoxy Lining process that includes the following:
Location / Access;
Bypass;
Isolation;
Cleaning;
Inspection (Pre-lining);
Lining;
Inspection (Post-lining);
Disinfection; and,
Reconnection. An example is provided of using epoxy lining at the city of McKinney, Texas. The selection process is presented, along with project execution and highlights. Project summary includes the following:
3-year multi-phased project;
October 2009 completion target;
City Council approved $1m per year for 3 years;
average cost of $45 per foot budgeted for
trenchless contractors;
as of January 2008, 24,800 feet of estimated
68,000 feet has been completed;
total costs associated with project average $60
per foot vs. $100 per foot for replacement; and,
in the last four months of the project only 4 complaints were
received for discolored or rusty water. The known benefits of epoxy lining are listed and include:
protection against future corrosion;
prevents colored water and stains;
service life established 40-60+ years;
reduced friction, increases flow capacity;
more effective than flushing by producing long-term
solution to internal pipe corrosion;
minimally disruptive to other utilities, infrastructure and
environment; and,
faster and less costly than replacement.
