This powerpoint presentation begins by providing a brief overview of the Long Beach Water Department (LBWD) and its desalination program. Research on fouling control is presented, along with the test impact of blending desalination
permeate on corrosion. Conclusions indicate that: generation method for ClO2 is key; "free chlorine" free ClO2 have been
successfully applied onto PA membranes for
580 ppm-hours without noticeable damage to
the membranes; ClO2 is rejected during the desalination
process; the application of chlorine dioxide controlled
biofouling in cartridge filter system; post treatment testing facility construction is
complete; CI, DI, and steel preconditioning stability; during preconditioning, pipes were
superchlorinated and may have destabilized
scale; however, more recent data suggest the
new scale formation is stronger than previous
scale; and, blending studies have begun and will proceed
for the next 6 months. Includes tables, figures.
